Swimming

Nexus swimming is led by internationally experienced swimming coaches with significant national and international experience. Our Nexus Swim Team and Elite Swim Team compete in a series of events every year, ranging from local to international meets such as SNAG Swimming Championships, ACSIS Swimming Competitions and overseas meets.

Nexus is proud to offer highly attractive swimming scholarships to eligible elite swimmers, to join our Elite Swim Team. Our Elite Swim Team participate in an intensive and comprehensive training program which involves dedicating many hours in the pool in order to achieve their personal goals. The Elite Swim Team is highly committed and ranks among the top competitive teams in Asia. We offer personalised programs for each swimmer as we believe in maximising the potential of each individual athlete. We acknowledge that each swimmer is an individual with unique skills, emotional intelligence and developmental needs; we adapt our personalised programs to suit each child.

In addition to improving swimming skills, we strive to develop each swimmer's confidence, respect and enthusiasm for the sport. These are endowments that will last a lifetime.

Our aim is to promote swimming in Singapore and the Southeast Asian region by creating a centre of excellence, run by expert international coaches. We will do this by providing comprehensive and high quality swimming programs with special emphasis on developing young swimmers according to their age group and needs. Our competitive program is designed to develop mental toughness, technical skills and achieve the maximum potential of each swimmer in the sport. Moreover, we believe that our program will help to instill the lifetime values of sportsmanship and teamwork, through the disciplined pursuit of the swimming excellence.

Programs

Elite Swim Team

This program provides intensive training for serious competitive swimmers between the ages of 10 to 18. It provides them with opportunity to reach their maximum potential in the sport. Swimmers of the Elite Swim Team swim to qualify for their home country nationals, and compete in high level regional and international swimming events. This program covers up to 17 hours a week, including strength and conditioning training which places emphasis on developing the necessary skills outside the pool. Swimmers at this level are provided with personalised programs for term breaks, with advice on proper nutrition and recovery methods.

Swimmers can be invited by the Head Coach or enter the program by meeting eligibility for the swimming scholarship program. These swimmers are expected to compete at international and home national age group championships.

The key point of entry for learners to be considered for the Nexus Swim Team is the trial that takes place at the start of each academic year. This process allows the coaching team to simplify the administrative process, staffing and allocation of resources for the year. That said, as coaches identify potential and commitment during the school year (and as new learners join us), learners may be invited to join the Swim Team at any time if they meet the established criteria. Although the Primary Swim Team is initially restricted to learners from Years 3 to 6, Year 2 learners may also be invited to join the team during the school year. After formally observing Year 2 learners in their HPE Swimming lessons to assess their potential (based on their current skills and enthusiasm), some may be invited to join the Primary Swim Team, subject to meeting the above criteria and place availability (given established safety ratios).
