PREPARING FOR LIFE
AFTER NEXUS

As our learners approach their last years in school, we strive to ensure that they are well prepared and have a smooth and successful transition into life after Nexus. Our Year 9 to 13 learners start Careers and University units that are delivered by our Careers and University Counsellor, IB Coordinator, Phase Leaders and Tutor Teachers during PSHE time.

keeping
UP-TO-DATE

Our Careers and University Programme provides up-to-date information each year based on a range of factors including: changing admissions requirements, applications details and processes, country information and many more. Our team updates and compiles this information to distribute in weekly bulletins and fortnightly newsletters to ensure that learners and their families have the most up to date information. We provide information about live university webinars, careers fairs and academic talks held by tertiary education bodies to ensure that our information remains relevant. Our counsellor also undergoes professional development to ensure that practice and guidance is up to date through certifications like the Cialfo Counsellors Certificate and participation in the annual Global University Counsellor Connect (GUCC).

PLANNING
AHEAD

In Years 9-11

We start guiding our learners to think more about their aspirations, strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes and overall identity which will help them gain insight to what they might want their future to look like. We also encourage them to plan for the immediate future as far as making decisions about IBDP and 3rd level courses that they may want to pursue based on their purposes in life and career choices

In Years 12-13

We start guiding our learners to think more about their aspirations, strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes and overall identity which will help them gain insight to what they might want their future to look like. We also encourage them to plan for the immediate future as far as making decisions about IBDP and 3rd level courses that they may want to pursue based on their purposes in life and career choices

Coaching at Nexus

Apart from meeting with a counsellor in Term 4, Year 12 learners have the option to work with a Nexus Coach, running throughout Year 12, as needed. We help learners navigate through doubts and dilemmas about their futures in this transitional period by offering guidance and pointers. Through coaching, we aim to produce self-directed learners who practise reflective thinking that informs their independent decision-making.
