Over two years, International Baccalaureate Diploma learners at Nexus International School study six subjects from different subject groups, with the following core components:
Book a tour to get started on the next step to your future success
The six subject groups are:
Learners may opt to study an additional Science or Individuals and Societies subject, instead of a course in the Arts. This caters for those that wish to choose Biology and Chemistry to pursue a route into medicine at university. Learners will be able to take some subjects at higher level (HL) and some at standard level (SL). HL and SL courses differ in scope but are measured according to the same grade descriptors, with learners expected to demonstrate a greater body of knowledge, understanding and skills at higher level. Each learner takes at least three (but not more than four) subjects at higher level, and the remaining at standard level.
There are IB World Schools in nearly 150 countries throughout the world, and IB graduates enter universities in nearly 90 countries annually. Many graduates from Nexus successfully apply to universities in Australia, UK, Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Denmark, USA and Canada
Universities such as UC Berkley, SUNY will earn 30 to 45 credit hours for admission.
Example University Requirements
To apply for English Language and Literature at Christchurch College, University of Oxford, an applicant typically needs a total DP grade of 38 points, and at least a six in three HL subjects.
Other universities have require the following IB scores:
“IB is well known to us as excellent preparation. Success in an IB programme correlates well with success at Harvard. We are pleased to see the credential of the IB Diploma Programme on the transcript.”
Marlyn McGrath Lewis, Assistant Dean of Admissions, Harvard University, USA
“The IB is a first-rate programme, one we are familiar with, and it prepares students well for a university like ours.”
Fred Hargadon, Director of Undergraduate Admissions, Princeton University, USA
Nexus offers a comprehensive University Guidance programme. With a dedicated member of staff working with each learner on their university choices, working to match personalities with courses, grades and applications in their preferred country of choice. Using our world renowned software we are able to plug in results, skillset, goals and subjects to offer a range of university options across the globe.
My time at Nexus helped me explore the things that I was interested in, in an environment that was safe and encouraging. Nexus gave me the courage and self confidence to go after what I really wanted. Since leaving Nexus, I’ve been studying cognitive science at UBC and I got my first real job which is really exciting. I’ve also become part of a lot of voluntary groups at UBC and in Vancouver, one of which focuses on providing clean drinking water to those in less economically developed areas. I’ve had so many fulfilling experiences in the last few months, from school to my job and volunteering and I know that if I wasn’t given the support that i received at Nexus, that I probably wouldn’t have had the courage to apply for my first job, or volunteer at a local charity on my own.
To those of you who are finishing school and moving on to the next stage in your lives, remember that there is so much out there. Don’t limit yourself. Take risks and put yourself out there. You’re going to have so many amazing experiences in the years to come but that will only happen if you let it. At first it was really hard for me but I successfully made it to the end of my first year at university and I’m looking forward to the years to come.
1. Our average points per diploma is above the global average, with some learners gaining very high scoring diplomas
29.9 Global Ave Score
34.0 Nexus Ave Score
2. We have a wide subject choice range available for our learners.
3. We have small tutor groups which allow each learner to thrive in a supported environment. An average of 9 learners per tutor group.
4. We understand that some learners have commitments in their specialist fields and so we can offer the IBDP over three years so that learners are able to meet their sporting or art commitments and schedules.
5. We offer an expert CAS programme which is led by our learners supported by teachers, giving them the option to thrive within their passions and enjoyment.
6. Nexus is accredited by WASC and our graduation certificate is recognised by universities across the USA as the equivalent to a US High School Diploma.
School Trips in the IBDP are designed to support their coursework through CAS projects, research and fieldwork. This allows them to demonstrate what they have learned in practical and new surroundings, attributing it to their dissertation.
Year 12 Trip – Telunas
In October, Year 12 learners go on a week-long residential trip to Telunas, Indonesia. They collaborate on a significant community project in which they visit and connect with a local village. This trip will provide significant contributions to each learner’s Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) programme, National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) as well as embed the understanding of elements of the Theory Of Knowledge (TOK) curriculum.
Year 12 Biology and ESS Trip – Indonesia
In May, learners from Year 12 go on a four-day/three-night residential trip to LooLa Adventure Camp to Bintan, Indonesia.
The purpose of the trip is to provide opportunities for fieldwork studies to our learners. Fieldwork is a vital component in the study of IBDP Biology and Environmental Systems and Societies. It connects the material we cover in the classroom with the real world. This experience will also provide them with field work skills that are a critical component of their IBDP Biology or ESS course.
