Coach Ivan Bunakov joined Nexus in 2014, aiming to build the strongest competitive swimming community in Singapore. Combining his decade worth of experience in teaching and competitive coaching in various countries and his background as a programme developer, he has provided Nexus with a successful and vibrant swimming curriculum. In a short time, the program has produced many Singapore National Age Group (SNAG) medalists, ACSIS medalists and record holders, and has ranked Nexus in the top division of international schools. Coach Bunakov has also extended the Elite Swim Programme that has grown impressively and delivered many high performance athletes.

His extensive coaching experience in the international field, and the achievements of his athletes in swimming, have also helped him to receive the highest coaching certification of Level 5 from the American Swimming Coach Association (ASCA). Whilst coaching in Qatar, Coach Bunakov was an assistant coach for Kimiko Raheem who represented Sri Lanka in Rio 2016 and Sam Dailey who represented Great Britain in many international events and broke many national age group records. Working at Nexus, Coach Bunakov has had the opportunity of bringing his swimmers to European Junior Championships and FINA World Cup events.

Coach Bunakov’s philosophy: Swimming is another tool which helps me to build up outstanding young people with great self-confidence, values and passion. In his free time, Coach Bunakov enjoys fishing and playing with his two boys over the weekends.
