Embracing Innovation: Year 9 Learners Reimagine Shakespeare with AI

Infusing Tradition With Cutting-Edge Technology To end the academic year, our Year 9 learners were tasked with performing “Romeo & Juliet” and creating adaptations in their chosen style.   Working in groups, the learners decided on their styles, resulting in unique versions such as a ‘Barbie Movie’ or LA-style rendition, a 1940s New York gangster interpretation, and an East End ‘Roadman’ London version, to name a few. The learners then had four weeks to prepare and devise their pieces.    To translate the script based on their chosen styles, the learners used ChatGPT and other AI tools to breathe new

Understanding CAT4 Predictive Grades for IBDP

Widely used in schools, the Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) assesses a learner’s cognitive skills, offering valuable insights into how they learn and measure learners’ reasoning abilities in four key areas:   Verbal Reasoning: The ability to understand and reason using concepts framed in words. Non-verbal Reasoning: The ability to understand and reason using visual information. Quantitative Reasoning: The ability to understand and reason with numerical information. Spatial Ability: The ability to visualise and manipulate shapes and spaces in the mind.   By evaluating these cognitive abilities, the CAT4 assessment provides a unique, comprehensive cognitive profile of a learner’s strengths and

Year 12 IBDP Science Learners Engage in Transformative Outdoor Education in Rompin Rainforest

Our Year 12 learners recently embarked on a remarkable educational journey as part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) Sciences. Over four days, they immersed themselves in the lush and diverse Rompin Rainforest in Malaysia. This outdoor education experience was closely linked to their Internal Assessments (IA), a critical component of the final external IBDP assessment. Internal Assessments (IA) in the IBDP are research-based projects that account for a substantial portion of the final grade in each science subject. These assessments require learners to formulate a research question, conduct experiments, and analyse data, thereby developing a deep understanding of

Fostering Teamwork & Resilience on the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Trip

As a teacher and the Duke of Edinburgh Award leader at Nexus International School Singapore, facilitating the Bronze trip to Pulau Ubin was a deeply fulfilling experience for me. It was more than just a Nexus school trip or camping excursion, it was a transformative journey for both myself and the 27 learners who embarked on this adventurous journey.   The Duke of Edinburgh’s (DOE) Award is about imparting essential life skills such as resilience, adaptability, and teamwork to our learners. While Nexus currently offers only the Bronze level of the award, it is a foundational step towards building a

Reflecting on a Spooktacular Show: Key Learnings from ‘The Addams Family’ Performance

As the head of Theatre here at Nexus, I couldn’t be more proud of the dedication and enthusiasm radiating from everyone involved in our production of “The Addams Family.” It was palpable, infectious even. When selecting a play for this year’s performance, we aimed to choose something that would both challenge and inspire our talented learners, but also something none of the staff had done before. Interestingly, a significant portion of the cast had requested “The Addams Family,” citing their love for the quirky characters and we thought it would be fun to try out a slightly darker comedy this year.

Team Nexus At The International Rube Goldberg Competition 2024

Two Nexus learners, Freddie and Kiran, are proudly representing Nexus at the International Rube Goldberg Competition of 2024. Our learners created a Rube Goldberg machine using scientific concepts like conservation of energy, forces and others to create this year’s competition task, a device that would put toothpaste onto a toothbrush. Sounds like a simple task? Not in this case! What Is A Rube Goldberg Machine? At the heart of a Rube Goldberg (RG) machine is the intent to complete a simple task in an unnecessarily complicated way. Why you may ask? Well it started with Rube Goldberg, an American cartoonist

Nexus Learners Explore University and Career Paths at NexSteps Careers Fair

Recognising that career guidance in schools is essential in helping prepare learners for a world outside of these walls, Nexus starts its Careers and University units early, from Year 9 to 13 learners and offers the NexSteps Careers Workshop. This is where our Year 10 and 12 learners get a head start by learning from industry

Nexwell: A Wellbeing App Developed By Five Nexus International School (Singapore) Learners Dedicated to Their Peers

Sparked from a request raised by the school counsellors, five Nexus learners found themselves tackling this challenge: How could learners have access to resources and help 24/7, especially in moments when counsellors and support are not readily available? Their solution – Nexwell, a wellbeing app developed by learners, for learners. Learning By Tackling Real-World Problems The creation of the Nexwell app was an interdisciplinary collaboration that combined the technological possibilities that Computer Science offered, the Design aspects of creating a user interface and the knowledge of psychological needs and mental health. Ms Hemangi Ahire, the Learning Area Leader of the

Nexus Stock Exchange Competition: Cultivating Real-World Investment Skills

This school year, an exciting new initiative has created a buzz around Nexus International School, capturing the attention of both learners and staff — the Nexus Stock Exchange Competition.    Under the guidance of Mr. Raza, Business & Economics Learning Area Leader, the competitive league has cultivated an interest that stretches far beyond the classroom, providing valuable lessons that transcend traditional syllabus content. Launching the First Nexus Stock Exchange Competition Launched at the start of the school year in August, the competition handed participants a virtual $100,000 to invest in a simulated New York Stock Exchange.
