OUR

teachers

Inspired learning starts with highly motivated and professional teachers. All our teachers are internationally qualified and experienced and the learning doesn't stop there. We invest in continuous staff training, through programmes such as our own in-house professional development, to coaching, to hosting guest speakers and sharing best practice with other international schools. Nexus encourages personal development, with 35% of teachers holding a Masters Degree with many more in the process. We also ensure our support staff are experienced; 61% of our classroom assistants have degrees. Language is very important; as an international school this is often the first time children experience a language that may not be their mother tongue. At Nexus we deliberately employ staff from across the globe who are able to speak a range of languages to help children communicate and build confidence.

LANGUAGES

Nexus offers French or Mandarin for all students

We currently offer Mother Tongue courses in Dutch, French, Japanese, Russian and Polish. Over half of our learners speak two languages or more. For students who may need some extra help with their language development Nexus offers Bilingual and Multilingual Language (BML) Specialists. Our BML Specialists work with each child, helping them to confidently and accurately communicate in English both socially and academically.

Additional English for BML
(Bilingual and Multilingual Language) learners

From Nursery to Year 8

Learners who have some command of English but require some focus on developing language skills can receive Additional English input. These learners attend 4-5 sessions a week with a BML Specialist focusing on developing an understanding and use of key vocabulary and grammar.

Intensive English for BML
(Bilingual and Multilingual Language) learners

From Year 5 to Year 9

Learners who are at the emerging stages of their language development can receive Intensive English input. These learners take part in specialist subjects (Art, Music, HPE, Maths) with their homeroom peers and then receive up to 22 periods per week of language development from a BML Specialist. Following similar inquiry questions studied in mainstream English and Humanities/Units of Inquiry, this support focuses on developing the language skills and functions necessary to be able to confidently and accurately use academic English.
