In Years 12 and 13, learners at Nexus embark on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) — one of the world’s leading pre-university programmes. Recognised by universities worldwide, the IBDP ensures academic excellence and equips learners with the holistic skills and mindsets needed to excel in higher education and beyond.
With a WASC accreditation, our graduation certificate is recognised by universities across the USA as an equivalent to a US High School Diploma. The quality and international prestige of the IBDP prepares Nexus learners for whatever the future may hold.
Small tutor groups, wide subject choices, and an emphasis on learner agency foster holistic growth, developing essential soft skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and independence.
Along with a comprehensive career and university programme, Nexus helps its learners stand out in university applications and step confidently into the future.
IB DiplomaCurriculum
The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) stands out as a rigorous and well-rounded curriculum that challenges learners academically while also nurturing the development of the whole learner through its emphasis on service learning, university-preparedness and personal growth.
Over two years, learners will study six academic subjects and complete three core components, the Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), which cultivate critical thinking, personal growth, and global-mindedness.
At Nexus, the IB philosophy is woven into everything we do. Learners collaborate not only in academics but also through sports, arts, music, and service projects, enriching their experiences and fostering a sense of community. This balanced approach empowers learners to excel in their pursuits and prepares them to graduate with the skills, mindset, and qualifications needed to gain admission to the university of their choice.
Why Study IbDPAT NEXUS?
At Nexus, we are committed to providing the best possible experience for our IB Diploma learners by combining academic excellence with personal care. Here’s what sets us apart:
Expert Teachers
Our dedicated teachers are subject specialists, many with Master’s and PhD qualifications, bringing deep expertise to the classroom.
Small Class Sizes
With fewer learners per class, every individual receives more focused and personalised attention.
Comprehensive Support System
Beyond subject teachers, learners have access to a careers and university counsellor and an IBDP coordinator, always available in the IB common room for guidance and support during breaks.
Flexible Subject Options
We offer a range of subjects and work closely with learners to tailor the programme to their interests, goals, and future aspirations. We also offer a flexible IBDP pathway — including a unique three-year option for learners with specialist commitments in sports or the arts.
Frequent Check-Ins
To ensure everyone’s on track, we frequently assess and check in with learners to track their progress and provide meaningful support. Our teachers build strong relationships with learners, treating them as individuals and caring deeply about their overall wellbeing and personal growth.
CoreComponents
Theory of knowledge
Through an exhibition and 1,600-word essay, IB learners are tested on their critical thinking and are called upon to support, analyse and critique a theory, discussing how it translates to the real world.
The Extended Essay
Learners produce a 4,000 word independent research piece on a subject of their choice, preparing them for practical undergraduate research. Each IB learner at Nexus gets a mentor (a qualified teacher and subject specialist) to help guide them through their essay.
Creativity, Activity, Service
Learners go beyond the classroom to grow mentally, socially, and creatively. CAS aims to encourage learners to show initiative and demonstrate skills such as collaboration, problem solving and decision making to prepare them for life beyond education. At Nexus, we have a dedicated overseas CAS trip in Year 12 to kick-start the IB journey.
IBDPSubjects
At Nexus, we support each learner by working closely with them to map out subject choices that align with their unique interests, goals and aspirations.
SupportingLife After Nexus
Our comprehensive University Guidance Programme prepares learners for life beyond school, starting as early as Year 9. Through tailored Careers and University units, delivered by a dedicated team including our Careers and University Counsellor, IB Coordinator, Phase Leaders, and Tutor Teachers, learners gain practical insights and support throughout their secondary years.
By refreshing our knowledge and information yearly, we ensure that our learners have the most current and accurate information. We guide them to explore their individual personalities, strengths, weaknesses and interests to help them envision and prepare for their future pathways. Learners are also supported through every step of the application process, from personal discovery to practical preparations.
School trips are where impactful learning experiences and unforgettable memories happen.
In Year 12, learners engage in service projects as part of the CAS component of the IBDP. On these residential trips, learners deepen their understanding of the world by spending time in a new culture. They make a positive impact on the communities they visit by planning their service and delivering it at their destinations. One year, a group of Year 12s visited Cambodia’s Kong Maha village to improve the local school facilities, teach them about oral hygiene and donate toothbrushes and toothpaste from the Nexus community. Each year, our IBDP learners make a lasting and meaningful impact on their trips.
