WHAT IS SERVICE LEARNING?

Service learning, a core component of the IB philosophy, is an engaging teaching approach designed for all ages. It transforms abstract concepts into meaningful, real-world applications, inviting learners to actively engage with complex global issues.

WHY IS SERVICE LEARNING VALUABLE?

These experiences help learners understand the power of community involvement by building connections locally and globally to address genuine needs. Along the way, they develop key skills such as empathy, collaboration, and resilience — traits that empower them to contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

SHAPING CARING INDIVIDUALS

By stepping outside the classroom into authentic learning experiences, learners exercise their voice and choice, finding purpose in their efforts. They discover the causes that ignite their passion and learn how to create meaningful change, growing as compassionate, thoughtful changemakers.

Service in Action SERVICE EFFORTS BY OUR LEARNERS

ANNUAL CLIMBATHON

Every year, learners from Nursery to Year 12 take part in our Climbathon, an exciting event that raises funds for Pipal Tree, a charity supporting reforestation efforts and educational opportunities for women and children in rural Nepal.

YEAR 12 CAS TRIP

As part of the IB CAS programme, our Year 12 learners embark on an unforgettable trip to Nepal. There, they dive into local history and culture, collaborate on meaningful service projects with a village school, and learn sustainable farming practices directly from the community.

COMMUNITY BAKE FOR EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

When a devastating earthquake struck Syria and Turkey, the Nexus community came together to make a difference. Both Primary and Secondary learners joined forces in a heartfelt community bake sale, uniting with families to raise vital funds for humanitarian aid.

MAKING A REAL DIFFERENCE

Service learning is woven into lessons across all year levels, connecting classroom learning with meaningful action.

In Year 9, learners take on the MYP Community Project, a culminating experience that guides them through the full process of designing and delivering a service initiative. This project equips them with the skills and confidence needed for the Year 12 CAS trip, where they collaborate on impactful projects that contribute to local communities.
