Learners in Years 7-9 study the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP)* which builds on the skills and learning attitudes from the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Through the MYP, learners bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical applications in the world. It also prepares them for future academic challenges, including the IGCSE and IBDP, by engaging them in meaningful inquiry within a robust academic setting.
CONCEPTUALLEARNING
In the MYP, learning is guided by inquiry, action and reflection – or simply, asking, doing, and thinking. We use a concept-driven approach across eight subject areas, helping learners connect theoretical concepts to real-world applications.
Conceptual learning helps learners make meaningful connections that deepen their understanding across disciplines and develop the skills to tackle complex ideas in varied situations. By framing lessons in a global context, learners see the real-world relevance of their studies and gain a deeper appreciation of how their learning applies to the world around them.
THE MIDDLE YEARSFRAMEWORK
Our MYP approach encourages learners to explore questions, apply their knowledge in real-world contexts, and reflect on their experiences. By engaging with subjects through meaningful inquiry, learners develop critical thinking skills and gain a deeper understanding, preparing them for future academic challenges and lifelong learning.
In the MYP Framework, learners deepen their skills by engaging in four key phases:
This structured approach empowers them to explore meaningful questions, develop practical solutions, and thoughtfully assess their progress, fostering critical thinking and personal growth.
COMMUNITYPROJECT
In the third year of the MYP, all learners complete the Community Project — a self-directed, long-term inquiry that meets a need within the community. Driven by personal interests and creativity, our learners will showcase a presentation and an exhibition to showcase their work. In this process, Year 9 learners will investigate, plan, take action, and reflect on their issue of choice.
Real-World Impact
The Community Project pushes learners to move beyond ideas into actionable plans to address needs within their community. It challenges them to think deeply: How do I make meaningful change? How can I create feasible solutions for complex issues like climate change, world hunger, or education access? By investigating, planning, taking action, and reflecting on these questions with a practical focus, learners gain a more grounded worldview.
Year 9 learners emerge from this project with experiences that encourage them to dream boldly while making a tangible difference. This journey instils a sense of responsibility, resourcefulness, and confidence to pursue impactful goals in the world.
Skills for the Future
With a focus on interdisciplinary learning, the MYP prepares learners to make connections across subjects, fostering deeper understanding and adaptability. The study habits and resilience developed throughout the programme also prime them for the challenges of the IGCSE and IBDP.
