Setting Sail with ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’: A Nexus Production to Remember
Sometimes learning happens when you least expect it — like when you’re sword-fighting on the high seas, hunting for treasure, and belting out a pirate tune! This year for our annual Primary Production, our learners presented Pirates of the Curry Bean, delivering an electrifying performance packed with laughter, music, and daring escapades.
Throughout the production, our Year 5 and 6 learners threw themselves into every moment – they memorised lines, perfected choreography, and brought a colourful cast of characters to life with charm, wit, and boundless energy. Along the way, they showed extraordinary courage, resilience, and teamwork. Our learners supported each other, stepped bravely onto the stage, and took creative risks that paid off in spectacular fashion.
Beyond a fantastic show, the Pirates of the Curry Bean is a great example of the opportunities that Nexus creates for its learners to explore, grow, and express themselves. Through months of dedicated rehearsal and preparation time, our young performers experienced a huge amount of growth through the process. They built confidence, stretched their imaginations, and formed friendships that will undoubtedly extend beyond their time at school (and the fiercest pirate storms!).
During the performance, the auditorium was filled with music, mischief, and marvellous storytelling. The energy in the room was palpable, with the rousing cheers of the audience enthusiastically requesting for an encore through a standing ovation.
At Nexus, we enrich our learners with vibrant and exciting experiences like the Primary Production as they open doors to new passions, unveil hidden talents and build core skills in engaging and fun ways. This adventure was not only memorable and enjoyable, it also allowed our learners to display the learner attributes, “caring” and “communicators”, by working together harmoniously while staying balanced and principled by seeing their hard work through to the end. The sense of accomplishment and shared joy made every moment worthwhile, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved.
The Pirates of the Curry Bean was a whole school effort, combining the expertise of so many teams and individuals throughout the school. Year 5 and 6 teachers, Art teachers, our IT and AV department, the facilities and marketing teams, as well as other Year 5 and 6 learners who created stage sets and props, all contributed to the success of our Primary production. The result was 4 incredible performances that our school and parent community enjoyed, and a cast of aspiring performers having an opportunity to step outside of their comfort zones and shine on stage.
We couldn’t be prouder of our learners and the magical world they created. We invite you to relive the adventure with us and celebrate the joy, energy, and unstoppable spirit of our Nexus pirates by watching the video below!
