We recently celebrated the outstanding achievements of our Year 12 learners in their 2025 IGCSE Results. Their resilience, determination, and hard work have led to incredible success both in and out of the classroom. Their success reflects the dedication, resilience, and curiosity we strive to nurture at Nexus.
This year, 52% of all Cambridge IGCSE grades were A or A*, and 55% of all Edexcel grades were 9–7, the equivalent of A*–A. Overall, an impressive 54% of all grades achieved were A*–A or 9–7, with the most common grade in English and Mathematics being an A* or 9/8.
One of these learners was Avi, who achieved 8 A*–A or 9–7 grades in the 2025 IGCSEs.
Avi joined Nexus in Year 8 and is now in Year 12. Passionate about History, he hopes to study it at university, with aspirations of progressing into Law. Alongside his academic interests, he has also enjoyed taking part in Drama, performing in the Secondary Production of Legally Blonde as Professor Callahan.
We caught up with Avi to talk about his results, how he prepared for his exams, and his journey at Nexus so far.
Could you introduce yourself (your first name, grade, and how long you have been at Nexus)?
My name is Avi. I am in Year 12, and I have been at Nexus since Year 8.
Which subjects did you take for your IGCSEs, and why did you choose them?
For my electives, I took History, Business and Drama. I took Drama because I really enjoyed it in Year 9. I took History because I want to do History at university level, and I took Business because it was a popular subject amongst my year group.
What inspired your subject choices? Was there a particular experience, teacher, or moment that influenced you?
I have always wanted to study History at a higher level ever since I was young. The IGCSEs were my first opportunity to really study it, and I enjoyed it a lot. I want to study History at the University of St Andrews in the future.
The other subjects were just to explore and see if I was sure. I do not have a specific plan of what I would like to study after History, but I am thinking about Law. History is very good for a lot of the humanities, and after you do that degree, it opens up many doors.
For Drama, it just aligned with what I wanted to do. I enjoyed it in Year 9, and I really liked the teacher I had. The practical part was more fun than the writing, but overall it was a good choice.
How did you approach preparing for your exams? Do you have any tips or strategies that might help other learners?
The best thing I ever did was sticking things on my walls. I stuck the circle theorems for IGCSE Maths on my closet so I saw them every day. At first I could not remember any of them, but by Term 2 I had memorised them all.
During my exam leave I was studying basically all day, which I was not doing before. I was taking notes, going through past papers — which sounds cliché, but it really is the best thing to do.
In what ways has Nexus supported you in your learning journey and helped you to achieve success?
When I was struggling with subjects, my teachers were always there to help. I would go to them for study support sessions and ask any questions I had.
What have been some of your favourite lessons or learning experiences at Nexus, and why did they stand out to you?
History was definitely my favourite because I was really interested in it, and my friends and I were learning together. I also enjoyed Drama because it was fun to get up and act things out.
Last year, I played Professor Callahan in the Secondary Production of Legally Blonde. It was my first role in a Nexus production and It was really time-consuming, but worth it in the end. That was my first role.
This year I am thinking about doing the senior play in spring.
