We recently celebrated the outstanding achievements of our Year 12 learners in their 2025 IGCSE Results. Their resilience, determination, and hard work have led to incredible success both in and out of the classroom. Their success reflects the dedication, resilience, and curiosity we strive to nurture at Nexus.
This year, 52% of all Cambridge IGCSE grades were A or A*, and 55% of all Edexcel grades were 9–7, the equivalent of A*–A. Overall, an impressive 54% of all grades achieved were A*–A or 9–7, with the most common grade in English and Mathematics being an A* or 9/8.
One of these learners was Julian, who achieved 9 A* or 9 grades in the 2025 IGCSEs.
Julian joined Nexus in Year 9 and is now in Year 12. With a strong interest in mathematics, computer science, and business, he is inspired by problem-solving and how knowledge can be applied in real-world contexts. He values the diverse and supportive community at Nexus, as well as the shared experiences that made his IGCSE journey memorable.
We caught up with Julian to talk about his results, how he prepared for his exams, and his journey at Nexus so far.
Could you introduce yourself?
I’m Julian Dizon, Y12, and I have been at Nexus for 3 years since Year 9.
Which subjects did you take for your IGCSEs, and why did you choose them?
I took Computer Science, Further Pure Mathematics, Business, and Spanish as my electives.
I chose the subjects that interested me the most and that I felt I was strongest in. I have always enjoyed Mathematics and Computers, so Computer Science and Further Pure Mathematics were natural choices. I also took Business, as I felt it would allow me to gain knowledge I can apply in the real world in the future.
How did you approach preparing for your exams? Do you have any tips or strategies that might help other learners?
The most important thing is to put in the time and be consistent. During study leave and before trial exams, I spent a lot of time working through past papers and reviewing my notes. I did not use a specific study method, but found that consistency was the key.
In what ways has Nexus supported you in your learning journey and helped you to achieve success?
The teachers at Nexus are great and pushed me to succeed. I learned a lot from them over the course of my IGCSEs.
What have been some of your favourite lessons or learning experiences at Nexus, and why did they stand out to you?
I cannot point to one specific lesson, but I have valued the learning experiences as a whole and the support I received along the way.
Beyond academics, what other skills do you feel you have developed through your IGCSE subjects?
Time management, mainly. I also developed discipline by learning to prioritise my work instead of distractions, and even found enjoyment in the process of studying. I think these skills will be very useful for me in the IBDP.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the Nexus community? (This could be an extracurricular activity, a performance, an event or something else you value.)
Nexus has a very diverse community, with so many different people interacting with one another. I also really enjoy the trips, which have always been fun experiences.
Looking back, can you share one of your favourite memories from your IGCSE experience?
One of my favourite memories was prom. I also enjoyed the study leave in between exams, and the time spent with friends in the library. The classes were finished, and there was a sense of freedom, but at the same time, we all shared the same challenge ahead of us.
Are there any teachers you would like to highlight for their support or encouragement during your studies?
It would be hard to choose just one, because I would end up naming all of my teachers! They all supported me in different ways.
