Floorball Takes Off at Nexus
This year marks an exciting step forward for sport at Nexus as we introduced Floorball as a brand-new CCA. With over 100 CCAs and 25 sports available at Nexus, Floorball is the latest addition to our vibrant and ever-growing programme.
Launching in Term 1 with our inaugural boys’ secondary team (Years 7–13), the sport has already gained strong momentum. Our focus this year is on building skill, confidence and teamwork so our learners are ready to compete when the competitive season arrives.
Introducing Coach Ogawa
Many in our community will already recognise Coach Ogawa from Learner Services, and we are delighted to have her leading the Nexus Floorball team. She brings both years of experience and genuine enthusiasm to every session. Coach Ogawa first picked up a floorball stick in 2007 during her Polytechnic days and has since played in multiple Singapore championships, as well as the Australian Opens, where her team placed third.
When asked why she wanted to introduce Floorball to Nexus, she shared:
“I love floorball with a burning passion and have been wanting to share the sport with others.”
Under her guidance, our learners are not only learning technique and game fundamentals but are also discovering the energy, speed, and joy that make Floorball such an exciting sport.

Learning the Fastest Part of the Game
By Season 2, our learners were ready for their first unofficial friendly—an exciting milestone in their development. They had the rare opportunity to train with and learn from high-level adult players from Singapore’s Division 1 and Division 2 teams, groups that compete across the country and regularly contend for national championships. It was a chance for our athletes to observe advanced gameplay, communication and court awareness firsthand.
The friendly centred around one of the sport’s most challenging elements: line changes.
Floorball substitutions are immediate and unlimited, but they come with strict rules. Players may only enter the court once their teammate has completely crossed the boundary line, and all changes must occur within the substitution zone. Teams must also ensure that no more than five players are on the court at any moment, or they risk a 2–5 minute penalty.
The friendly offered learners practical insight into game flow, discipline and communication, laying valuable groundwork as we prepare for future competitions.

Expert Coaching from a National Coach
We were also incredibly fortunate to welcome former Singapore national coach Lim Jin Quan (JQ) to lead three of our training sessions. JQ is a well-respected figure in Singapore’s Floorball community, having coached both the national men’s and women’s teams.
His achievements include:
- SEA Games silver medal with the men’s team
- 2022 AOFC Cup champions with the women’s team
- 2023 SEA Games silver medal with the women’s team
With over a decade of experience coaching and playing, JQ is known for his energetic, motivational approach and for developing both skill and character in young athletes. His sessions have been a tremendous boost to our developing team.

Looking Ahead
As we continue developing our programme, we are excited about the growing opportunities within Singapore’s floorball community—particularly the SG Floorball Open, the largest tournament in Asia. Run by Filip Dahlgren, who brought floorball to Singapore in 1994, the event has become a major highlight on the regional sports calendar.
Alongside the main tournament, the event also includes youth satellite tournaments, summer camps, clinics and conferences, all designed to grow the sport and give young players access to world-class experiences.
As Nexus continues to build our Floorball pathway and prepare for ACSIS competition, we look forward to engaging more deeply with these wider opportunities and supporting our learners as they grow within this exciting sport.
Whether it’s igniting passion on the field or building fitness skills for life, there’s a sport for every learner at Nexus.
With over 25 sports, world-class facilities and expert coaching, our dynamic programme supports learners of all abilities—from curious beginners to national-level athletes.
