Nexus Musicians Perform in Festive Extravaganzas
The jingle bells are jingling, the decorations are set and it’s time to truly celebrate the magic of the holiday season with our series of Christmas Concerts at Nexus International School (Singapore). This year’s extravaganzas are a powerful demonstration of how we nurture performing arts as a core part of the Nexus experience, cultivating confidence, commitment, and talent in our learners.
This year, the Nexus Community were treated to multiple festive performances ranging from assemblies and recitals on the walkway, to our larger scale Carols by Candlelight and Primary Music Ensembles concerts. With around a third of our whole learner body performing across a week, it has been a true testament to the talent and commitment of over 500 learners, as well as our Music teachers.
An Annual Favourite: Carols by Candlelight
Our signature Christmas concert, Carols by Candlelight, was a true showcase of Nexus musical talent, drawing in performances from across our school community.
The evening began in the Eco Cafe, featuring fantastic sets from groups like the Jazz Quartet, Chamber Strings, Chinese Orchestra, and Guitar Ensemble. The audience then moved to the auditorium for a magnificent display of choir and orchestra performances, as well as our ever-popular communal carol sing-along.
The evening’s centrepiece began with a very special quartet of primary and secondary soloists leading the whole audience in the classic carol, Once in Royal David’s City. Following this communal start, the audience was treated to a magnificent display of performances from groups including the Secondary Choir, Chamber Choir, Secondary Orchestra, and Year 5/6 Choir. We were also delighted to feature a special performance from our Community Parent Choir, led by Secondary Music Learning Area Leader, Clare Lambert. The audience had their chance to join in again with community carols like O Come All Ye Faithful and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Every performance was a testament to the dedication, hard work, and countless hours our community have spent honing their musical talents.
The event concluded in the atrium, where the celebration continued with more performances from the Jazz/Pop Ensembles, and festive refreshments.

Twice the Fun at This Year’s Primary Music Concert
There were so many primary learners involved in musical ensembles this year, that one concert just wasn’t enough! So for the first time ever, the Primary Music team, led by Dr Cassie Maxwell, hosted two festive concerts for our community. Over 275 learners took part in performances including our Year 1 & 2 Singing Stars, Year 3-6 Primary Choir, Intermediate Ukulele, Primary Orchestra and not one, not two, but three Primary Rock bands! With favourites like Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree to global festive songs like Mele Kalikimaka, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas in English, French and Mandarin, our primary musicians performed a diverse mix of Christmas music, representing our truly international community.
Our Youngest Learners Take the Stage
Our youngest learners also joined in the fun this year with their own festive assemblies for parents to come in and enjoy. Nursery, Kindergarten, Year 1 & 2 learners dazzled us, singing songs including Shine Your Light, Happy Christmas to You and Twinkle Twinkle Follow the Star. Fun dance moves, festive accessories and twinkling star lights made their performances even more special.
Instrumental Groups and Singers Make Mornings More Magical
If all of this wasn’t enough, learners from our instrumental programme lit up the entrance walkway in the last week of term with performances of festive classics. From jazz groups to our talented vocalists, each of these performances made coming into school each day an event.
Performances like these couldn’t take place without the dedication of our Primary and Secondary Music departments, as well as the talented team of peripatetic instrumental tutors and class teachers who offer lessons to our learners each week. A huge thank you to everyone who has helped our learners become such confident performers on and off-stage!
And of course, these performances rely on the resilience of our learners who take risks and put themselves forward to take part in activities outside of their studies. Congratulations to all of our learners who showcased hours of practice and commitment with such incredible performances. Nexus is well and truly in the festive spirit because of your hard work!
