Hair for Hope 2026: Nexus Community Comes Together for Childhood Cancer Fundraiser

On Thursday 4 June, our school community came together for the 9th annual Hair for Hope event, a powerful day to support those battling childhood cancer. The event first started at Nexus in support of Joseph Loy, a former Nexus learner who sadly lost his life to cancer. We are incredibly proud that this year, 22 inspiring members of our community—including learners, staff, and parents—bravely shaved their heads to raise funds and awareness.

The day was filled with a mix of nerves and excitement. For some of our learners, this was their very first time taking part, while others have made it an annual tradition, showcasing a remarkable, long-term commitment to this cause. Several participants returned for their fourth or fifth consecutive year, demonstrating the consistent dedication our community has.

Participants from across all levels joined in, from Year 3 learners and secondary learners to teachers and parents. Many chose to shave in memory of loved ones or to ensure that children battling cancer know they are not alone.

Among the participants was one of our Nexus parents, Kate, who shared her motivation for joining the event: “I took part to honour friends lost to cancer, to raise valuable funds and awareness for children and their families battling cancer, to normalise baldness and show solidarity with those who have lost their hair through treatment. I hope to inspire others to donate and participate in Hair for Hope events.”

The event took place during Primary and Secondary lunch periods, where the community gathered to celebrate the courage of those involved. Secondary learners also participated in a “Crazy Hair Day” event to further support the fundraising endeavours. Our Primary learners will have their own “Crazy Hair Day” next week to further support Hair for Hope.

Thank you to every participant for their courage and to everyone who supported them.
