Earlier this year, Nexus CAS Coordinator Joanna Bevan was recognised with the Imprint of Commitment Special Award: Innovation Champion (School) at the SG Cares VC @ Geylang and Serangoon Thanksgiving 2025 ceremony.
The award celebrated Jo’s leadership in creating meaningful service-learning opportunities and community partnerships, including the development of an intergenerational ceramics programme that connected Nexus learners with senior citizens through creativity and shared experiences.
Building on the success of that initiative, Jo recently led a second Community Ceramics CCA in partnership with Brahm Centre @ Aljunied. Below, she reflects on the experience, the connections formed between learners and seniors, and the impact of creating together through clay.
Our second Community Ceramics CCA marked the completion of a wonderful 10-week journey of creativity, learning, and community connection. Last year, our Learners partnered with the seniors from the Brahm Centre @ Aljunied, an organisation dedicated to promoting wellbeing amongst seniors and youths within the local community.
Over the course of two months, the art studio became a space where age boundaries disappeared and we witnessed our Learners and the seniors working side-by-side, sharing stories, learning new techniques, and developing their skills in ceramics together.
