From West End to Workshops: Nexus Learners' Unforgettable Arts Trip to London
This October break, Nexus learners embarked on an unforgettable Arts trip to London. It was a week brimming with creativity, inspiration, and unforgettable experiences.
From the moment they landed, our learners immersed themselves in the heart of the performing arts world, engaging with industry professionals and soaking up the cultural vibrancy of the city.
A standout moment was learning choreography with a featured dancer from the Wicked film, followed by an incredible vocal coaching session with Strictly Come Dancing’s Hayley Sanderson. Learners also explored the craft of screen acting through hands-on workshops that revealed what it takes to perform for the camera.
For Year 12 learner Ashley-Rose, the week was “one of the best experiences ever.”
“Sharing it with people who all love theatre as much as I do made it even more special. We kept talking about how lucky we were to be there and how much we were enjoying every moment. By the end of the week, we’d really grown closer as a community,” she said.
This was honestly one of the best experiences ever!

The trip was packed with unforgettable performances, including Hadestown, Back to the Future, and The Importance of Being Earnest, featuring an all-star cast of Stephen Fry, Hugh Dennis, and Olly Alexander. Behind the scenes, learners were treated to an exclusive backstage tour of the National Theatre, gaining insight into the artistry and teamwork that bring productions to life.
For Aurora, our Year 12 learner, one of the most memorable parts was the screen acting session.
“My London highlight was definitely the movie camera workshop because we got to read scripts from movies like Mean Girls, act them out, and see ourselves on screen like real actors,” she said. “The experience of seeing the West End musicals one night and then working with professionals on stage the very next day was unbelievably cool and made the whole trip unforgettable.”
Between theatre adventures, there was time to enjoy iconic London landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and the London Eye, and, of course, a little shopping too.
Reflecting on what they learned, Ashley-Rose shared, “The audience only sees what you choose to show them, so every movement and choice needs to be intentional. The screen acting workshop especially opened my eyes to a completely new side of performance and really broadened the way I think about acting.”
Aurora added, “The biggest takeaway is definitely the importance of putting yourself out there and taking a chance. Honestly, even if you don’t consider yourself a ‘theatre person,’ this trip is genuinely fun and enjoyable for absolutely everyone.”
The trip left our young artists inspired, excited, and ready to bring their newfound knowledge onto our own school stage!
