Celebrating the Arts at Nexus

We recently marked Spotlight on the Arts Week at Nexus, with a range of events across Visual Arts, Music, Drama and Dance. Throughout the week, learners shared their work through exhibitions and performances, showing not only their talent, but also the time and effort behind it.

Here’s a look at how we celebrated the week.

Kicking Off with the IB Art Exhibition

The week began with our IB Art Exhibition, which marks the end of an 18-month creative process for our Year 13 learners. More than a display of finished pieces, the exhibition reflected each student’s development, ideas and personal approach to their work.

During the evening, learners spoke with guests about their artistic intentions and the thinking behind their pieces. Being able to explain the “why” behind their work is an important part of the IBDP, and it was encouraging to see how confidently and thoughtfully students did this.

Young Performer, Dancer and Musician of the Year

Our “Of the Year” competitions give learners the chance to perform and challenge themselves, regardless of age. Young Performer and Young Dancer included entries from across the Secondary School, while Young Musician of the Year was organised by instrument grading levels rather than age. This meant that Primary and Secondary learners could take part alongside one another, connected by their shared interest and level of skill.

Learners also had the opportunity to perform in front of external professionals. This year, we welcomed an expert in Shakespearean theatre and a Singaporean actor to judge the Young Performer of the Year.

All five finalists delivered strong monologues, with judges commenting on the overall standard. Congratulations to Lukas, who won the category for his portrayal of Romeo.

In the Young Dancer of the Year category, external judge Leandra Lane—who has performed alongside artists such as Pharrell Williams and The Supremes—noted the quality of both solo and group performances. Congratulations to Lele, this year’s overall winner.

A Senior Production of The Crucible

Secondary learners also took to the stage for this year’s Senior Play. Unlike the musical (Footloose), this production focuses on more demanding dramatic texts. This year, students performed Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.

With just six weeks of rehearsal, the cast showed strong focus and commitment. Ronav led as John Proctor, delivering a controlled and thoughtful performance. He was supported by a strong ensemble, including Avalee as Mary Warren and Ximena as Abigail Williams, both bringing real intensity to their roles. For several of Year 13 learners, including Oliver and Tomas, this was their final performance at Nexus. It was a fitting way to mark their contribution to the Arts during their time at the school.

Outstanding Contribution to the Arts

This year, we introduced a new Outstanding Contribution to the Arts award, recognising Secondary learners who have shown sustained commitment to the Arts, whether in one area or across multiple disciplines.

A huge congratulations to the following learners:

Year 7: Sadie
Year 9: Taylor, Quynh
Year 10: Jett, Yunjia, Josephine, Shivanysree
Year 11: Gabriel, Lais
Year 12: Grace, Ashley Rose
Year 13: Kristen, Orla, Lukas, Tomas

The Arts at Nexus continue to be an important part of school life, supported by both staff and families. Thank you to the parents who attended events during the week and supported the learners throughout.

We look forward to seeing our learners continue to develop, and to following the journeys of our graduating Class of 2025 as they move on from Nexus.
