Gemma Shadid
Nursery Homeroom Teacher
Master of Arts in Early Years Education - University College London Postgraduate Certificate in Education - University of East Anglia

An experienced Early Years educator of 15 years, Gemma prides herself on building genuine connections with children, families and colleagues fostering a secure, joyful and inclusive learning environment for all. Her diverse career spans rural and city-based UK schools alongside independent international schools in Singapore. These experiences have equipped her with a rich toolkit to adapt her teaching to the evolving aspirations of the children and their communities.

Having earned a Master’s Degree in Early Years Education with Distinction from University College London, Gemma has channeled her love for Early Years into consultancy alongside teaching facilitating professional dialogues with other leaders and teachers on innovative and creative practices. She was invited as a guest speaker on the Early Excellence podcast to discuss her child-centred, creative approach.

Her educational philosophy is centred around the child and their context in connection to the complexity of the world around them – co-creating joy, agency and intention for both children and educators. She creates a nurturing learning environment where children and families feel a real sense of belonging whilst offering children time to explore their curiosities and capabilities.

After spending their children’s younger years in the UK, the family have embarked on another international chapter at Nexus – ready to widen their lens to explore the world together, embracing cultural richness, diversity, and the growth such experiences can create.
