Celebrating the IBDP Class of 2026: Clementine
This year, our 2026 graduates achieved outstanding results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), with an impressive average score of 35.7 points—well above the global average of 30.88.
15% of learners scored 40 points or above, and 62% scored 35 points or more, placing them among the world’s top-performing IB learners.
As a cohort, they also achieved results that were, on average, 4.3 points higher than their initial predicted grades at the beginning of the programme.
Among these exceptional achievers is Clementine, who is a part of the Nexus Elite Swim Squad. She will be pursuing a double degree in Data, Societies and Organisations at Bocconi University and HEC Paris.
Four years ago, Clementine joined Nexus International School Singapore, where she quickly found the perfect balance between academic challenge and elite sport. As she prepares to begin a double degree in Data, Societies and Organisations at Bocconi University and HEC Paris, she reflects on a journey that helped her grow both academically and personally.
After being awarded the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at Nexus, Clementine credits her success to embracing challenges, staying open-minded and never being afraid to try something new.
One of the biggest lessons she will take with her is the way Nexus shaped her approach to learning. Throughout both her IGCSEs and IBDP, Clementine says that thanks to Nexus, she was “able to view setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow.”
That mindset became particularly important when she found the transition from IGCSE to IB more demanding than she expected. With regular study sessions and support beyond the classroom, Clementine’s teachers helped her build both confidence and understanding across multiple subjects.
Outside the classroom, the breadth of opportunities available at Nexus encouraged Clementine to explore interests beyond her academic subjects. Through CAS, she challenged herself to try experiences she may never have considered before, from Model United Nations and the Junior Achievement entrepreneurship programme to buddy reading with Year 3 learners.
“I think staying open-minded and trying new things is the biggest thing I’ve learned.”
Those experiences not only helped her develop new skills but also strengthened her university application. With support from the Nexus university counselling team, she refined her motivational letter, CV and interview skills while drawing on the diverse experiences she had built throughout her time at school.
They also helped her discover the right university course.
“I’ve always had a very broad range of interests, and I felt that picking one field was quite limiting for me. This programme felt perfect because it’s really interdisciplinary, mixing data science with social sciences while also allowing me to explore sustainability and project management.”
Although she isn’t yet certain where her career will lead, she sees that as one of the programme’s greatest strengths.
“I feel that this allows me to discover multiple different fields that are really relevant in today’s job market.”
Alongside her academic journey, the Nexus Elite Swimming Squad became a defining part of Clementine’s school experience. Training for up to 20 hours each week while balancing the demands of the IGCSE and IBDP required commitment, but it also taught her skills that extended far beyond the pool.
“I’ve developed a lot of resilience and learned how to stay consistent, even when things are hard. I’ve been able to apply that to my academics as well. I’ve also learned time management by balancing 20 hours of swimming alongside the IB Diploma. It wasn’t easy, but it’s taught me so much.”
The programme also gave her opportunities to compete at the highest level in Singapore, including winning four consecutive High School ACSIS Championships, competing at the Singapore National Championships and racing against Olympians at the 2024 World Cup. Training camps, workshops with Olympic swimmer Michael Klim and daily sessions alongside her teammates also helped her grow as both an athlete and a person.
“The pool has definitely become almost my second home.”
Looking back, one moment stands out above the rest.
“My favourite memory was definitely winning the High School ACSIS Swimming Championships in 2022. It was an incredible, surreal experience. Now, being able to say that we’ve won it four years in a row, I feel really proud to be part of the team.”
When she arrives in Milan later this year, Clementine hopes to continue swimming with Bocconi’s university team while maintaining the balance between academics and sport that she developed at Nexus.
Reflecting on the university application process, there is only one thing she wishes she had done differently.
“I’d probably tell myself to trust the process a little bit more. During the whole application process, I had a lot of what-ifs and felt really uncertain about the future. I would have told my younger self to stop stressing and just enjoy my final moments in high school.”
Her advice to younger Nexus learners is equally simple.
“Use your teachers to help with your learning, but also beyond academics. Try new skills. Try a sport, even if you’ve never done it before. Go outside your comfort zone and try new things because Nexus has so many things to offer.”
Clementine’s IB journey reflects so much of what we value at Nexus: academic excellence, resilience in the face of challenge, and a deep commitment to personal growth.
As Clementine prepares to begin a new chapter, we have no doubt that she will continue to thrive and inspire. We are incredibly proud of all that Clementine has achieved and are grateful to have been a part of her journey.
