Celebrating the IBDP Class of 2026: Tomas

This year, our 2026 graduates achieved outstanding results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), with an impressive average score of 35.7 points—well above the global average of 30.88.

15% of learners scored 40 points or above, and 62% scored 35 points or more, placing them among the world’s top-performing IB learners.

As a cohort, they also achieved results that were, on average, 4.3 points higher than their initial predicted grades at the beginning of the programme.

Among these exceptional achievers is Tomas, who will be completing National Service before pursuing a degree in diplomacy or law.

Looking back on his journey from Year 1 to Year 13, Tomas believes one of the defining features of Nexus has been its supportive culture.

“The Nexus community is really supportive. Nexus doesn’t treat mistakes as something to be punished, they use them as teaching moments and help you work through them.”

That encouragement extended beyond the classroom, giving Tomas the confidence to explore interests he hadn’t expected to pursue.

“I’ve always loved drama, but as I got older, some of my teachers encouraged me to try music as well. Now I’m performing in bands, taking part in school productions every year, and it’s helped me grow so much.”

Over the years, Tomas has become one of the school’s most active performing arts learners, appearing in every major production since Primary School and performing regularly through Nexus’ music programme.

Among his favourite experiences was representing Nexus at the FOBISIA International School Battle of the Bands in Malaysia.

“We travelled with our friends and performed alongside bands from countries across the region like Thailand, Korea and Malaysia. It was so much fun meeting other young musicians and performing together.”

The Theatre programme has also created unforgettable opportunities, including a trip to London where learners watched West End productions and took part in workshops with theatre professionals.

“We watched all these plays and worked with the actors in workshops. It was such an amazing experience.”

Back on campus, the annual school productions remain some of Tomas’s favourite memories.

Footloose was definitely a lot of fun, and I also really enjoyed Bugsy Malone. But Mary Poppins was probably the first big show where I really got to know so many people. That’s where a lot of my friendships began.”

While the performing arts became a major part of his Nexus journey, Tomas also discovered new passions through sport.

He was part of the group that helped establish the boys’ volleyball programme, transforming informal lunchtime games into a learner-led co-curricular activity.

“It started with a group of friends playing at lunchtime. Then we learned how to set up the nets, worked with our coach and the PE department, and eventually built it into a proper CCA. We’d be at school at 6.30 in the morning practising together. It was so much fun.”

He also took up rugby simply because his friends encouraged him to give it a try.

“I wasn’t very good when I started, but I really enjoyed it. It helped me find a new passion.”

Inside the classroom, Tomas says his teachers always adapted their approach to help every learner succeed.

“They could see where I was struggling and would adapt to the way I learn. Lessons were always interactive. We weren’t just sitting there listening. We were involved.”

One teacher who has made a lasting impact is his long-time drama teacher, Miss Kim.

“She’s always been someone I can talk to. Obviously she’s my teacher, but she’s also someone who’s really caring. If I ever had a problem, I knew I could go to her.”

Beyond academics, Tomas believes one of the greatest lessons Nexus has taught him is how to connect with people from different backgrounds.

“Nexus is so international. There are people from so many different cultures, and it’s really helped me understand different perspectives and connect with people from all over the world.”

As he prepares for National Service and eventually university, Tomas has one piece of advice for younger learners.

“Talk to people. Make friends. Nexus has so many different people from different communities and different backgrounds, and everyone has a unique story. Getting to know those people is one of the best parts of being here.”

For Tomas, Nexus has never simply been a place to study. It has been a community where friendships, creativity and shared experiences have shaped the person he has become.

Tomas’s IB journey reflects so much of what we value at Nexus: academic excellence, resilience in the face of challenge, and a deep commitment to personal growth.

As Tomas prepares to begin a new chapter, we have no doubt that he will continue to thrive and inspire. We are incredibly proud of all that Tomas has achieved and are grateful to have been a part of his journey.
