Celebrating the IBDP Class of 2026: Teresa

This year, our 2026 graduates achieved outstanding results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), with an impressive average score of 35.7 points—well above the global average of 30.88.

15% of learners scored 40 points or above, and 62% scored 35 points or more, placing them among the world’s top-performing IB learners.

As a cohort, they also achieved results that were, on average, 4.3 points higher than their initial predicted grades at the beginning of the programme.

Among these exceptional achievers is Teresa, who achieved an outstanding score of 44 points.

With an outstanding score of 44 in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), Teresa is preparing for her next chapter at Bocconi University in Milan, where she will study International Economics and Management.

Throughout her time at Nexus, she discovered new passions, developed greater independence and built the confidence to pursue opportunities that aligned with her interests and ambitions.

One of those passions was Economics, a subject she never expected to enjoy.

“I wasn’t actually that interested in Economics in the beginning because I thought it would be super boring, but my teacher and my classmates made it really fun and interesting.

That experience ultimately inspired Teresa’s choice of degree. Drawn to a programme that combines both Economics and Business, she also appreciated the flexibility it offered as she begins exploring her future career.

Teresa secured her place at Bocconi through the university’s competitive admissions process, which considered her IGCSE and Year 12 results alongside her performance in the Bocconi entrance test.

Looking back on her time at Nexus, Teresa believes the IBDP challenged her in all the right ways, helping her develop skills that will stay with her long after graduation.

“Nexus really helped unlock my potential. The IB definitely isn’t easy, but it pushed me to become more independent and better at managing my time, staying organised and asking for help when I needed it. The teachers were also super supportive. They were always happy to answer questions or go over things again if I didn’t understand.”

Outside of the academic challenge, it was the collaborative classroom environment that made learning so rewarding for Teresa. Open discussions, engaging activities and the confidence to share ideas helped transform subjects like Chinese and Economics into two of her favourites.

“In Chinese, we did role-playing and a lot of fun activities. The mood was very lively, and everyone was just having a good time. In Economics, everyone was very talkative, and it was also such a lively environment.”

That open and collaborative approach to learning also helped Teresa develop skills that she’ll carry with her beyond school.

“The discussions definitely made me a lot better at thinking things through properly and not just jumping to an answer. I also got better at problem-solving and explaining my ideas clearly, which I know will be useful in pretty much anything I do.”

Beyond the classroom, Teresa looked forward to school trips and spending time with friends, creating memories that she knows will stay with her long after graduation.

“I have so many memories from Nexus, so it’s honestly hard to choose just one. Junior Achievement was really fun, and I loved all the school trips.”

Throughout her time at Nexus, Teresa built strong relationships with teachers who made a lasting impact on her learning. Whether it was creating engaging lessons, offering encouragement when she needed it most or bringing energy and humour into the classroom, they helped make every day enjoyable. Whether she needed extra support, a different explanation or simply someone to encourage her, she knew her teachers were always there to help.

She credits Mr Darcy, Ms Vu and Ms Abuto as three teachers who each played an important role in her journey. From interactive classroom activities and thought-provoking discussions to unwavering support and memorable stories, they inspired Teresa to enjoy learning and grow in confidence.

As she prepares to begin university in Milan, Teresa encourages future Nexus learners to work hard, ask for help and enjoy every moment of the journey.

“Don’t stress out too much and don’t leave stuff to the last minute. Take the time to do your TOK (Theory of Knowledge) essay properly and ask as many questions as you can. But also don’t forget to enjoy yourself and go out with your friends.”

Teresa’s IB journey reflects so much of what we value at Nexus: academic excellence, resilience in the face of challenge, and a deep commitment to personal growth.

As Teresa prepares to begin a new chapter, we have no doubt that she will continue to thrive and inspire. We are incredibly proud of all that Teresa has achieved and are grateful to have been a part of her journey.
