Taking the Stage at CHIJMES: Nexus Choirs at Voices of Singapore

Our Nexus musicians were thrilled to be welcomed back to perform at this week’s Voices of Singapore Festival, taking place at the historic CHIJMES building. Learners from our Primary Choir and Secondary Chamber choir took to the stage alongside local Singaporean schools in the island’s largest non-competitive festival of choirs. 

Now in its 11th year, our Nexus learners enjoyed a day of activities at the Voices of Singapore festival including vocal masterclasses before taking to the stage. Clare Lambert, Head of Secondary Music and conductor for the Secondary Chamber Choir, shared what an incredible experience it is for our learners to benefit from opportunities like this. “The workshop was lots of fun, but it also took our performance to the next level,” she noted. Ms Lambert also offered a special congratulations to our four soloists, Daisy, Charlotte, Aurora and Josephine who all performed spectacularly alongside our Chamber Choir.

For Dr Cassie, this was the Primary Choir’s second time performing at Voices of Singapore. Singing three songs from a variety of backgrounds showcased the diversity of our learners and their talents. Whilst many of the audience may have recognised A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman and Harry Styles’ Treat People With Kindness, the Primary Choir’s third song, Viking Warrior, was an unfamiliar choice that quickly became a real crowd-pleaser. 

An integral part of the music programme at Nexus is offering learners from across the school the chance to perform, either in our purpose-built auditorium or at national venues like CHIJMES or Singapore Botanic Gardens. The Voices of Singapore Festival is always a highlight for our learners, and as always, they have made the whole Nexus Community extremely proud.
