Celebrating Deepavali Across Our Nexus School Community
At Nexus International School (Singapore), we have been celebrating Deepavali this week across our campus. It has been a wonderful opportunity for our entire community to come together, learn about the cultural traditions of the Festival of Light, and share in the values of joy and unity. From exploring the stories and significance behind the festival to taking part in hands-on festive activities, our learners enjoyed discovering the rich heritage that makes Deepavali so special.
The celebrations started the moment families stepped onto campus. Learners arrived dressed in beautiful traditional attire, filling the school with colour. In the atrium, a stunning peacock rangoli created by our talented parent community greeted everyone as they arrived, while parents and learners shared traditional Indian sweets along the walkway. We also welcomed back the team of fabulous Bhangra dancers who got everyone moving on their entry to school on Thursday morning.
Hands-On Festive Activities in the Multi-Purpose Hall
Inside the Multi-Purpose Hall on Wednesday, our Primary learners were invited to engage with traditional cultural experiences on stalls run by our parents and teaching staff. They enjoyed tasting treats such as cornflake ladoos, bhel poori, dosas, and muruku, while exploring artistic traditions by creating intricate rangoli designs, decorating diya lamps, crafting Deepavali cards and lanterns, receiving detailed henna designs, and taking part in Bollywood dance workshops. For many of our learners, Deepavali celebrations like these are a highlight of the school year, whether they typically celebrate at home or not, showcasing how sharing events like these can bring our international community closer.
Inspiring Assembly Highlights from the Bhangra Dancers
The Deepavali assemblies were, as always, a moment to reflect on the traditions of Deepavali. Primary learners enjoyed hearing the story of Goddess Lakshmi and Jeshta, watching an energetic performance by our Bollywood CCA, and celebrating with our visiting Bhangra performers. We are also looking forward to welcoming members of our parent community, who will be performing in next week’s assembly to continue our celebrations.
Cultural celebrations like these reflect our commitment to fostering a warm, inclusive, and internationally-minded environment where every family feels welcomed and valued. A heartfelt thank you goes to all our staff, learners, parents, performers, and community members who helped bring these memorable celebrations to life.
Wishing all our Nexus families celebrating Deepavali a joyful and light-filled festival!
