Around the World in 80 Minutes: A Celebration of Music at Nexus

Our school community filled the auditorium this week for this term’s secondary music ensembles concert as they took us “Around the World in 80 Minutes”. As a truly international school in Singapore with over 60 nationalities calling us home, the central theme of how music connects us across cultures and borders felt particularly fitting, with learners taking the audience on an unforgettable musical journey across the globe.

A Musical Journey Across Cultures

With every stop on the itinerary, excitement grew as musical pieces from South Africa, USA, Romania, Argentina, China, Japan, and the UK were revealed. The evening showcased the incredible talent, versatility, and dedication across our secondary music programme, featuring incredible performances from our Chamber Choir, Secondary Choir, Senior Orchestra, Chamber Strings, Jazz/Pop Ensemble, and Jazz Quartet.

Primary School Join Secondary Musicians

What made this evening truly extraordinary was a special collaboration with our Year 6 learners. As part of their weekly music curriculum, all Year 6 learners have spent the term learning ukulele, violin, cello, or trumpet. After just six weeks of lessons, over 100 primary learners stepped onto the stage alongside our secondary musicians for a grand finale: a lively performance of Dai Dai (the 2026 World Cup song). The combined choirs, orchestra, and Year 6 instrumentalists brought the house down with the audience singing and clapping along.

Countless Opportunities to Perform at Nexus Singapore

This concert is just one example of our thriving music ecosystem at Nexus. Every week, over 60 music ensembles rehearse on campus, providing rich opportunities for learners of all levels to grow. Beyond school concerts in our two-tier auditorium, our musicians regularly perform at prominent venues across Singapore—including the Voices of Singapore Festival at CHIJMES, regular spots at iconic music venues like The Blackbird and Timbre+, and our “Nexus at the Gardens” event at the Singapore Botanic Gardens’ Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage. Looking ahead, our secondary learners are already busy preparing for the upcoming FOBISIA Battle of the Bands, where they will audition to compete against top international schools from across Asia.
