We recently celebrated the outstanding achievements of our Year 12 learners in their 2025 IGCSE Results. Their resilience, determination, and hard work have led to incredible success both in and out of the classroom. Their success reflects the dedication, resilience, and curiosity we strive to nurture at Nexus.
This year, 52% of all Cambridge IGCSE grades were A or A*, and 55% of all Edexcel grades were 9–7, the equivalent of A*–A. Overall, an impressive 54% of all grades achieved were A*–A or 9–7, with the most common grade in English and Mathematics being an A* or 9/8.
One of these learners was Mohan, who achieved 8 A–A* or 9–7 grades in the 2025 IGCSEs.
Mohan joined Nexus in Year 10 and is now in Year 12. A keen mathematician and musician, he thrived in both subjects thanks to the support of his teachers and peers. He highlighted how resilience and collaboration helped him succeed, and shared how meaningful it was to win the Personal Best award twice in a row during his IGCSE journey.
We caught up with Mohan to talk about his results, how he prepared for his exams, and his journey at Nexus so far.
Could you introduce yourself?
My name is Mohan Aadithiyaa. I am in Year 12 and I have been at Nexus for as long as I have lived in Singapore, which is two years.
Which subjects did you take for your IGCSEs, and why did you choose them?
I took Triple Science (Biology, Physics and Chemistry), Computer Science, Music, Higher Spanish, English Language and Literature, Higher Maths, and Global Perspectives. I naturally gravitated towards Triple Science because I have always had an interest in Physics and Chemistry. I had also been learning Spanish before joining Nexus, so it was an obvious choice for me.
The only two subjects I hesitated over were Computer Science and Music. For Computer Science, I already enjoyed programming and working with computers. I got my first laptop at the start of the pandemic, and it felt like a new world to explore. I eventually picked up programming at my previous school and became quite good at it, which is why I chose it as an IGCSE subject.
Music was the oddest choice, since I had not studied it much before. My mother suggested I try it, and since I had nothing to lose, I decided to go ahead. Before joining Nexus, I had already completed several Trinity exams in both theory and practicals with Keyboard as my instrument, but I did not know much about the history of music or the techniques used to describe different compositions.
In the end, I did not have one specific inspiration for my subject choices. I simply chose what felt right for me at the time and also took the advice of my parents and teachers.
How did you approach preparing for your exams? Do you have any tips or strategies that might help other learners?
I was able to understand the concepts in class, and I also studied with my classmates. I was fortunate to be in a smaller Music class, and our friend group became close, which really helped us learn better together. I also did a lot of past papers, especially for Biology and Spanish. For Maths, I focused on the last two or three questions, since they were the hardest and carried the most marks. For me, if I could understand those questions, the rest of the paper would be a breeze.
In what ways has Nexus supported you in your learning journey and helped you to achieve success?
All of the teachers at Nexus have a growth-oriented perspective, and I believe that without their support, I would not have scored as well as I did. They were always encouraging, provided additional resources when I needed them, and their feedback helped me correct my mistakes.
What have been some of your favourite lessons or learning experiences at Nexus, and why did they stand out to you?
My favourite lessons at Nexus were Maths and Music. I grew to really enjoy Mathematics, especially in Mr Cairns’ class. He is a great teacher with a unique sense of humour, and his lessons were always interesting and engaging, which made me even more invested in the subject.
For Music, the smaller class size made our group feel very close-knit. We supported each other whenever we had doubts, which made the subject feel special. Ms Lambert and Mr Steven were also a big part of my Music journey, always ready to give advice and guidance with compositions and performances. Their support definitely helped me boost my grades.
