Nexus Learners Triumph at Junior Achievement 2025, Winning Company of the Year
When it comes to preparing young entrepreneurs for the future, Nexus learners have once again proven they are a force to be reckoned with. Competing against some of Singapore’s brightest student companies, our teams not only impressed the judges but also took home top honours at this year’s Junior Achievement (JA) Singapore Company of the Year (COY) competition.
We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our two Nexus teams, Greentopia and OjO, who impressed judges with their creativity, teamwork, and purpose-driven businesses. Greentopia took home the coveted Best Overall Company award alongside Best Trade Booth, while OjO was recognised for its innovative approach to eye care.
What is Junior Achievement Company of the Year?
The JA Company of the Year is an entrepreneurial competition that spans 12 weeks. Learners are challenged to build, manage, and eventually close their own companies as they experience every stage of running a business — from ideation and product development to marketing, sales, and liquidation. Throughout the process, they receive guidance and gain real-world business insights from amazing JA mentors like Dean Bell, Michael Borst, Mike Matthews and Natalia Poliakova.
This year’s Singapore round saw ten teams competing, each consisting of an average of 12 learners. The goal? To create a product or service that is not only commercially viable but also makes a meaningful impact. Nexus has been proud to host this competition for several years, as it closely aligns with our philosophy of fostering an entrepreneurial mindset in our learners.
“Every year, I’m amazed by how the learners exceed my expectations. Their passion and determination for innovation continue to impress me.”
Jim Bevan
Business and Economics Teacher and mentor to Greentopia.
Greentopia developed a sustainability-focused card game that educates players on environmental issues through real-world challenges. With over 300 units sold and $5,000 in profit, the game has proven to be both engaging and impactful. A portion of these earnings has been donated to Orca Nation, an organisation dedicated to ocean literacy, with further plans to collaborate on a digital sustainability role-playing game.
OjO addressed the growing concern of screen-related eye strain with a comprehensive eye care kit, featuring a heating and cooling eye mask, blue light glasses, and customisable scents. Judges commended the team’s strong chemistry and their willingness to take risks in their presentations.
These projects are a testament to what our learners can achieve when given the space to explore, experiment, and apply their learning beyond the classroom.
A Legacy of Entrepreneurship
Since 2015, Nexus learners have consistently risen to the occasion at the JA COY, securing wins year after year. This ongoing success is a reflection of our commitment to equipping learners with the skills they need for the future—creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership.
“Entrepreneurship is more than financial success—it’s the perfect vehicle for developing the soft skills that universities and employers value most.”
Shoaib Raza
Director of Digital Learning and Entrepreneurship at Nexus
What’s Next?
Winning Best Overall Company means an exciting opportunity awaits Greentopia — they will represent Singapore in the Asia Pacific JA competition in Tokyo this March in an all expenses paid trip. They will compete against top teams from across the region, putting their business skills to the test on an international stage.
Greentopia will also continue this project beyond the competition in their partnership with Orca Nation as they collaborate to create a digital role-playing game that will revolve around sustainability.
No matter what comes next, we know these learners will carry forward the entrepreneurial spirit that they have nurtured at Nexus. Congratulations to both teams—we can’t wait to see where your journey takes you!
