High-level Sports Competition In Singapore
Nexus International School is a full member of the Athletic Conference of Singapore International Schools (ACSIS). The mission of ACSIS is to provide young athletes with an opportunity to compete in a broad and balanced inter-school athletic programme that is an integral part of their educational experience. Win or lose, the ACSIS schools encourage learners to demonstrate a winning effort, exhibit sportsmanship and demonstrate respect for all. This membership allows Nexus to compete in a wide range of sports with international schools across Singapore.
We enjoy our sport at Nexus but we also take it seriously. Our Health & Physical Education department is staffed by 9 full-time international members of staff, including FINA qualified swimming coaches, all of whom have significant individual expertise in their specialist areas that allows them to run recreational and competitive sports programmes. We have outstanding facilities (indoor and outdoor), a swimming pool complex that we are proud of and highly qualified staff including a dedicated Director of Sport. We love sport at Nexus and so do our learners.
Our new $230 million campus at Aljunied has been fitted with the latest technology to enhance our sports programmes. The Aquatics Centre boasts a 50m-long Olympic-size pool fitted with the latest Omega touch pad timing system, plus a 20m shallow pool for our younger learners or for our athletes to warm up.
A FINA and World Rugby specified Astroturf pitch sits alongside the pool for our football and rugby teams to train on a full-sized field. The football field is also certified by the World Rugby Federation.
A viewing deck sits above the bleachers so the parents can give their full support to their children. There are two double gymnasiums for volleyball, basketball and netball. School sports events at Nexus are free of charge and each team is supported by a manager and a coach. Competitive sports teams train up to three times a week with weekly fixtures during the season.
As a member of ACSIS we compete in competitive sports such as Badminton, Volleyball, Football, Netball, Athletics & Cross Country, Basketball, Swimming and Cricket. All ACSIS sports cater for children aged 8 to 18 years old. We also offer other sports like Gymnastics, Rugby, Ultimate Frisbee and more. We believe that if we have enough learners that are interested we can make it happen! With two members of staff that have represented their country at international events, we are confident we are able to support and guide both passionate sports people right up to Olympic hopefuls to reach their dreams.
