Nexus Learners Excel in World Senior Mathematics Competition
Learners from Years 12 and 13 recently went to UWC Dover to take part in the World Senior Mathematics Competition, returning as champions.
The competition started long before the weekend event, with learners completing several online rounds in the weeks leading up to the finals. On the day itself, our learners competed in teams of three, joining an international field of over 100 students from schools across Singapore and Vietnam.
We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part. Throughout the day, they demonstrated not only their mathematical ability but a great amount of commitment, perseverance, and teamwork.
Celebrating Individual and Team Success
The results were a fantastic reflection of the hard work our talented mathematicians put in:
Gold for Nexus: A huge congratulations to Julian, Divyansh, and Matej, whose team claimed gold in the school team category.
Individual Excellence: Congratulations to all of our learners who received Gold certificates in individual categories. A special mention to Julian, who was also recently awarded the Highest Mark in Singapore for IGCSE Further Pure Mathematics, achieving a remarkable “clean sweep” by winning 5 out of 5 gold certificates.
Qualifying for the Finals: Well done to Divyansh, Julian, Nicole, and Swan who have all qualified to represent Nexus at the Finals at Imperial College London this summer.
Taking Maths Beyond the Classroom
For our learners, the experience was about more than just the result. Year 12 learner Matej shared how the competition changed his outlook on the subject:
“As this was my first major mathematics competition, it completely reshaped how I view the subject. It allowed me to explore mathematics beyond the structure of the IBDP Analysis & Approaches Higher Level programme and appreciate its depth, creativity, and real-world problem-solving nature. It challenged not only my technical skills, but also my mindset. Collaborating with people who challenge you intellectually is one of the most powerful growth experiences you can have.”
Mathematics at Nexus goes beyond just numbers; it’s about taking learning out of the classroom and giving learners the confidence to apply their skills on a global stage. We look forward to hosting our own World Mathematics Championship this Pi Day for our MYP learners!
